TNNA (The National Needlearts Association Trade Show) Insider Report

Last week I attended TNNA in Columbus, Ohio, and it was a truly exceptional experience. There is something to be said about personally interacting with your colleagues, and since it only happens twice a year, you can imagine there is some excitement built up beforehand. It was terrific reconnecting with friends from the last show in January and making new ones -- even rubbing elbows with some people I was so starstruck by it was difficult to speak!

One common thing on the trade show floor this time was Contrast Color projects -- items worked with two or more colors (generally two though) and a combination of stripes, mosaic knitting and some stranded knitting. Combining a plain yarn with a multi, or gradient, or even two gradients was very popular, and all this contrast-color work was offset with large sections of garter stitch and even some lace.

One uncommon thing on the floor were the three alpacas brought in by Blue Sky Alpacas on Sunday afternoon. One older animal and two younger ones were placidly standing right in the booth where we could easily admire their fabulous coats. My children were exceptionally impressed when I sent them this photo of the alpacas, and my eldest declared that she was going with me next time regardless!

All in all, I am pretty excited about the upcoming ideas that this industry has to show you. The Fall and winter seasons are going to be chockfull of really interesting and enjoyable knitting.

Would you ever be interested in attending a knitting trade show? Have you gone to a retail show or fiber festival before? I would love to hear your opinions.
