Behind The Knitted Curtain- A Day At Creative Knitting

Hello again!

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work at a knitting magazine? The ins-and-outs of the publishing world?

Well look no further, as today we will be taking a peak behind the Creative Knitting curtain.

Last week I had the great pleasure to be a part of a photo shoot for the magazine, and thinking of our reader’s pleasure, I was quick to snap a few shots!

Where the photo magic happens.

Where the photo magic happens.

Our photo room is where the majority of the photos you see in our magazine are shot and styled. Walking into  the industrial space that morning, I could tell true creativity and style was going to be created here.

Just a few of the many decorations we have!

Just a few of the many props we have!

You could literally spend hours walking through the multitude of decorations we have to choose from on hand, all used to create just the right composition for a truly beautiful shot.

I personally am fond of the gorgeous yarns in every shade imaginable so artfully displayed in the photo to the right. (What a great idea for yarn storage!)

Fast forward a few hours and the festivities were in full swing and I was right there to get you the inside scoop!

It might seem surprising to some, but we actually shoot for our winter issue during the summer to keep up with the fast-paced industry we work in! So while most are thinking of the perfect bathing suit or what light-weight tank top to knit next, we’re thinking about the perfect sweater or blanket to curl up in on those cold, winter nights.

I have been chomping at the bit to write this post and give our readers an inside peek at the workings of our magazine and what’s involved in making a publication and now here it is!

So there you have it, my dear and loyal readers! An inside look into the world of Creative Knitting! Leave a comment telling me what you’d like to see next and don’t forget to follow me on Twitter!

Happy knitting,

Thanks – it was interesting to see what a photo shoot for the magazine is like. And what a great idea using cubbies for yarn storage. Question about using open cubbies for yarn storage at home – if the yarn is going to be stored for any length of time, should the yarn be put into ziplock bags to protect it?

      Hi Sue!

I’m glad you enjoyed seeing the photo shoot! It was definitely an exciting time for me! As for your question, it should be fine to store yarn outside of ziplock bags as long as there is no immediate danger of the yarn becoming wet! I sometimes store my yarn in bags to keep any possible dust off of it, especially if it’s a mohair blend as it can be a real pain to get dust off of that, but other than that, I store my yarn in cubbies!

Thank you for your comment and question!
