Patty’s Purls of Wisdom — NEW Feature in this Summer’s Issue!

Starting with the Summer 2015 issue, Creative Knitting we will be featuring a new advice column!

Teacher and knitwear designer, Patty Lyons will be like our knitting “Dear Abby.” We’re seeking funny, interesting emails to feature from great knitters.

Ask Patty Anything!

Share techniques, tips, knitting etiquette, lifestyle questions, you name it. It doesn’t matter how silly you think it is. (in fact, we encourage the silly, as it helps us keep our life in perspective)

Here are some quick examples:

  • What’s the best short row method for a scarf?
  • What are the tricks to keeping your sanity when knitting lace?
  • How do you avoid killing your spouse when he moves your shawl off the couch making your delicate stitches slip off the needle and your stitch markers tumble to the floor?

Please write them in letter form, just like the old letter’s to Dear Abby. If we’re able, we’d love to feature the full letter in the column, not just the questions, so have fun with it! Let’s all learn from each other and let’s start talking knitting!

Just want to say I enjoy this site. Thank you! I do want to tell you how much I like the pic of the white ball of yarn in the branches. NEAT!

I’m very excited about the upcoming “Dear Patty” advice column! I really enjoy her video tutorials. I am currently knitting her Fan the Flames pattern cowl and watched the tutorials that went with that knit along. One of the alternative methods she suggested for the ssk (to make it lay flatter) is now my new ‘go to’ method! I really enjoy the magazine and website. Thanks!

Something I just learned to “fix” my circular needles problem:

When I use my interchangeable needles they wiggle off their cable. This causes me to drop stitches and it’s very frustrating. To solve this problem I took some white “plumbers tape” (PTFE Thread Seal Tape)and stretched it around the threads on the cable. Then I re-attached/threaded it back on my needles and it keeps them together nicely!
Maybe somebody else would benefit from this “knitting trick!?”

    I love your magazine!
