Pattern Notes

This sock is worked on 3 double-pointed needles from the toe-up, with increased toe and short-row heel, ending with a picot bind-off on cuff.

A chart for the Interlocking Diamonds pattern is included for those preferring to work from charts.

Socks

Toe

Using provisional method, cast on 8 (12) sts.

Work 3 rows St st.

Remove waste yarn, placing sts on 2nd dpn (N1); place marker for beg of rnd--16 (24) sts.

Fold piece in half with WS tog and beg working in the rnd as follows:

Rnd 1: N1: Inc1, knit to last st, Inc1. N2: Inc1, knit to last st, Inc1--20 (28) sts.

Rnd 2: Knit.

Rep Rnds 1 and 2 until there are 64 (72) sts on needles, adding a 3rd dpn when needed to work with ease.

Foot

Distribute sts on needles as follows: N1 (1/2 instep): 16 (20) sts; N2 (1/2 instep): 16 (20) sts; N3 (sole): 32 sts.

Rnd 1: N1 and N2: Work Interlocking Diamonds pat across instep; N3: knit.

Work even in established pat until piece measures approx 7 (8) inches from beg, ending ready to work sts on N3.

Heel Turn

Note: Heel is worked back and forth across sts on N3.

Row 1 (RS): Knit to last st, W&T.

Row 2: Purl to last st, W&T.

Row 3: Knit to st before last wrapped st, W&T.

Row 4: Purl to st before last wrapped st, W&T.

Rep Rows 3 and 4 until 10 sts rem unwrapped.

Row 5: Knit to the first wrapped st, WW, W&T.

Row 6: Purl to the first wrapped st, WW, W&T.

Row 7: Knit to the first double-wrapped st, WW, W&T.

Row 8: Purl to the first double-wrapped st, WW, W&T.

Row 9: Knit across.

Rep Rows 7 and 8 until all double-wrapped sts are worked and 32 sts are live.

Leg

Next 2 (4) rnds: N1 and N2: continue working in established pat, N3: knit.

Next rnd: Work Interlocking Diamonds pat around as established.

Work even until piece measures 6 inches from heel or 1 inch less than desired length.

Work 5 rnds in K1, P1 Rib.

Picot Edge Bind-Off

*Cast on 1 st using cable method, k2, bind off 1 st, k2tog, bind off 1 st, then slip st on RH needle back to LH needle; rep from * until 1 st rem; cable cast on 1 st, k2, bind off 1 st; k1; bind off last st. Cut yarn and draw end through rem loop to finish.
