Our Amazing Knitting Community
I received well over 100 responses to my query about leftover yarn, and I thank each and every one of you for writing. I'm truly sorry that I could not include all of the responses in this issue.
I'm moved by the fact that so many of you don't have leftover yarn because you use it to knit for charities. You knit preemie caps, hats and mittens for the homeless, prayer shawls, lap blankets, blankets for animal shelters, baby rattles and toys for hospitalized children -- and when you don't have enough of one yarn, you work the projects in stripes!
Many of you are so frugal that you rarely over-buy. And when you do have leftovers, you use them for fringes, accents, bookmarks, tree ornaments, coffee-cup cozies, bags of all types, and more. And when you have yarn left over from a project that you're gifting, you give it to the recipient along with the item -- very smart.
I was relieved to find that I'm not the only one who doesn't have the time to do all that knitting, and thank you for giving me some ideas about organizations that would be happy to get free yarn -- day-care centers, schools, boys and girls clubs and nursing homes can all use yarn for projects. And since I doubt I'll be able to curb my yarn buying in any significant way, I'll try to clear out once per year and find the right home for my stash.
