Strawberry Parfait Set

Stripes, colorwork and a stylish closure are the key features of a chic cardigan and purse set for a young miss.
Girl's 4 (6, 8, 10) Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.
Chest: 27 (31, 35, 38) inches
Length: 14 (15, 16, 17) inches
- Plymouth Encore Worsted 75 percent acrylic/25 percent wool worsted weight yarn (200 yds/100g per skein): 2 (2, 2, 3) skeins off-white #146 (A), 1 (1, 2, 2) skeins light rose #9408 (B), 1 skein each sage #45 (C), burgundy #1607 (D)
- Size 6 (4mm) double-pointed needles
- Size 7 (4.5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge
- Size F/5 crochet hook
- Stitch holders
- Stitch marker
19 st and 25 rows = 4 inches/10cm in St st with larger needles
To save time, take time to check gauge.
Cardigan is worked in one piece to armhole, then divided for fronts and back.
Purse is worked from top edge downward.
Stripe pat is worked in St st of 10 rows A, then 10 rows B.

With A and larger needles, cast on 121 (137, 153, 169) sts.
Work in St st for 4 rows, forming hem.
Referring to chart and beg with a RS row, work 20 rows of Triangle pat.
Change to Stripe pat and continue to work even until body measures 8 (8 1/2, 9, 9 1/2) inches above first row of Triangle pat, ending with a WS row.
Divide for fronts and back
Next row: Knit.
Work in k1, p1 ribbing for 1 row. Cut B, join MC.
Next row (RS): K 30 (34, 38, 42) sts and place on holder for right front, k 61 (69, 77, 85) back sts, place remaining 30 (34, 38, 42) sts on 2nd holder for left front.
Working in established pat on back sts only, bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 3 sts at beg of following 2 rows, and finally 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
Dec 1 st each end of next row. (41, 49, 57, 65 sts)
Work even until armhole measures 5 (5 1/2, 6, 6 1/2) inches above first bound-off row, ending with a WS row.
Bind off 3 (5, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 3 (4, 5, 6) sts at beg of next 4 rows. (23, 23, 27, 29 sts)
Bind off all sts for back neck.
Sl sts from first holder to needles.
With WS facing, join yarn at armhole.
Continuing in established Stripe pat, bind off at arm edge [4 sts] once, then [3 sts] once, and finally [2 sts] once. Dec 1 st at same edge on following RS row. (20, 24, 28, 32 sts)
Work even until armhole measures 3 (3 1/2, 4, 4 1/2) inches above first bound-off row.
Next row (RS): K6 (6, 8, 9) sts and place on holder for front neck, knit to end of row.
[Dec 1 st at neck edge every other row] 5 times. (9, 13, 15, 18 sts)
At the same time when armhole measures same as for back beg shoulder shaping.
Bind off at arm edge, [3 (5, 5, 6) sts] once, then [3 (4, 5, 6) sts] twice.
Sew shoulder seams.
Sl sts from 2nd holder to needle. With RS facing, join yarn at armhole.
Work left front as for right, reversing shaping.
With A and larger needles, cast on 30 (32, 34, 36) sts.
Work in St st for 5 rows.
Knit 1 row on WS for turning ridge.
Continue in Stripe pat, [inc 1 st each end every 6th row] 9 (10, 11, 12) times. (48, 52, 56, 60 sts)
Work even until sleeve measures 9 (10, 11, 12) inches above turning ridge.
Bind off 4 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 3 sts at beg of following 2 rows, and finally 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows.
[Dec 1 st each end every other row] 6 times. (18, 22, 26, 30 sts)
Bind off 2 sts at beg of next 2 rows, then 3 sts at beg of following 2 rows. (8, 12, 16, 20 sts)
With RS facing and A, knit 6 (6, 8, 9) sts of right front neck, pick up and k 14 sts along right edge of neck, knit 23 (23, 27, 29) sts of back neck, pick up and k 14 sts along left edge of neck, knit 6 (6, 8, 9) sts of left front neck. (63, 63, 71, 75 sts)
Knit 1 row.
Work in St st for 4 rows, [dec 1 st each end every other row] twice. (59, 59, 67, 71 sts)
Bind off loosely.
Right Front Facing
With RS facing and A, pick up and knit 52 (57, 62, 67) sts along right front edge beg at row 1 of Triangle pat and ending at neck edge.
Knit 1 row.
Next row: Bind off 4 sts, k to end of row.
Work in St st for 4 more rows, [dec 1 st at neck edge every other row] twice. (46, 51, 56, 61 sts)
Left Front Facing
Work as for right front facing, reversing shaping.
Sew sleeves into armhole.
Sew sleeve and side seams.
Fold facings to inside and sew in place.
With B and crochet hook, ch 4, join to form a ring.
Rnd 1: Ch 1, work 12 sc in ring, join with sl st. Cut B.
Rnd 2: With D, work 1 sc in first sc of previous rnd, *insert hook in center of ring and work a sc through ring, sc in each of next 2 sc of previous rnd; rep from * around, join with sl st. (18 sts)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, turn, *working in back loops of previous rnd, pull up a loop in each of next 2 sc, yarn over needle and pull through all 3 loops on hook, rep from * 8 times. (9 sts)
Rnd 4: Do not turn, sc in first st, rep from * of rnd 3. (5 sts)
Fasten off, leaving a long end. Draw end through sts of final rnd to close opening.
Sew button to left front, 1 1/2 inches below neck opening.
With C and crochet hook, make a chain measuring 16 inches. Turn, and work 1 sc in the back bump of each ch st.
Make a 2nd chain measuring 13 inches.
Pin shorter chain to left front, folding center of chain tightly around base of button. Referring to Fig. 1, shape frog as shown. Sew in place.
Pin longer chain to right front as shown in Fig. 2, having 3 inches at center folded to form a loop. Sew in place.
Thread 1 strand each of B and D into tapestry needle. With both strands tog, work a French knot at outer point of each frog, wrapping strands around needle 5 times.
With dpn and D, cast on 64 sts.
Join without twisting, pm between first and last st.
Change to B and purl 1 rnd.
Change to A, and knit 8 rnds.
Eyelet rnd: *K2tog, yo; rep from * around.
Knit 1 rnd.
Change to B and knit 10 rnds.
Change to A and knit 10 rnds.
Referring to chart, work 20 rnds of Triangle pat, beg with Rnd 20 and working backward through Rnd 1. Note: Read chart from right to left for all rows and use 8-st rep only, omitting first extra st needed for body.
Change to A.
Rnd 1 and all odd-numbered rnds: Knit
Rnd 2: *K2tog, k6; rep from * around. (56 sts)
Rnd 4: *K2tog, k5; rep from * around. (48 sts)
Continue in this fashion, dec 8 st every other rnd until 8 sts remain.
Next rnd: K2tog around. (4 sts)
Cut yarn and draw through remaining sts, pulling tightly to close bottom of purse.
With C and crochet hook, make a 28-inch ch.
Working on inside of purse, thread 1 drawstring through eyelets, leaving equal lengths hanging on inside where ends meet.
Rep procedure with 2nd drawstring, starting and ending at opposite sides of purse.
Sew ends of each drawstring tog.
Pull ends to close bag.
