The Rest of the Story
For decades, Chicago's legendary commentator Paul Harvey followed the details of often-overlooked world events on his program iconically titled, "The Rest of the Story." I really enjoyed hearing these tidbits of news which most networks ignored. It fed my love of trivia to learn little-known facts from the lives of history makers, movers and shakers and the rich and famous. Now I have the rest of the story from my last newsletter to share with you.
Here are the final steps of the construction of my Fiesta & Dolcino Cardigan. After the body was complete and the sleeves were done, I picked up and knitted many stitches around the entire perimeter to work the edging. I wanted to duplicate the ridges of the garter stitches for the purple ribbon stripes, so I decided against the crochet border I had planned. Instead, two rows of garter stitch and a bind off in purl pleased me greatly. The white markers (see Photo 1) are the locations of the front corners or points of the V-neck where I needed to add stitches to prevent curling.

Here's the completed cardigan (see Photo 2). I plan to wear it open, so I will not add closures of any kind. I think a bit of steam will help coax those front corners into submission!
In conclusion, the addition of the purple ribbon ridges made a significant improvement to the original rather "blah" sweater I began a couple of weeks ago. It’s proof that my concept of "designing on the needles" is one I cannot entirely abandon. Regardless of my intentions, there is only so much that a design on paper will tell me. I must also listen to the whispered suggestions which the fibers themselves offer as the work progresses!
