Comfortable for everyday shopping, yet classic enough for business meetings, this cardigan is worked in a pattern of lace stripes.

Materials
- Worsted weight cotton yarn* (140 yds/100g per skein): 9 (9, 10, 10) skeins teal #2355
- Size 6 (4mm) needles
- Size 8 (5mm) needles or size needed to obtain gauge

With smaller needles, cast on 79 (85, 91, 97) sts.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): *K2tog, yo; rep from *, end k1.
Row 3: Knit.
Change to larger needles and beg Lace Stripe pat. Work until back measures 12 1/2 (13, 13 1/2, 14 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape armhole
Maintaining pat, bind off 6 sts at beg of next 2 rows. (67, 73, 79, 85 sts)
Work even until back measures 201/2 (21 1/2, 22 1/2, 23 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape back neck
Work across 19 (21, 23, 26) sts; attach a 2nd ball of yarn and bind off center 29 (31, 33, 33) sts, work to end. Work both sides at once until back measures 21 (22, 23, 24) inches from beg.
Bind off all sts.
Left Front
With smaller needles, cast on 39 (43, 45, 49) sts.
Work as for back until front measures approx 12 1/2 (13, 13 1/2, 14 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape armhole
Maintaining pat bind off 6 sts, work to end. (33, 37, 39, 43 sts)
Work even until front measures 18 1/2 (19 1/2, 20 1/2, 21 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a RS row.
Shape front neck
Bind off 14 (15, 16, 17) sts, work to end. (19, 21, 23, 26 sts)
Work even in pat until front measures 21 (22, 23, 24) inches from beg.
Bind off all sts.
Right Front
With smaller needles, cast on 39 (43, 45, 49) sts.
Work as for back until front measures approx 12 1/2 (13, 13 1/2, 14 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a RS row.
Shape armhole
Maintaining pat bind off 6 sts, work to end. (33, 37, 39, 43 sts)
Work even until front measures 18 1/2 (19 1/2, 20 1/2, 21 1/2) inches from beg, ending with a WS row.
Shape front neck
Bind off 14 (15, 16, 17) sts, work to end. (19, 21, 23, 26 sts)
Work even in pat until front measures 21 (22, 23, 24) inches from beg.
Bind off all sts.
Sleeves
With smaller needles, cast on 39 sts. Work as for back, inc 0 (0, 4, 4) sts evenly across on Row 1 of Lace Stripe pat. (39, 39, 43, 43 sts)
Work until sleeve measures 19 1/2 (19 1/2, 18 1/2, 18 1/2) inches from beg, at the same time, beg with Row 3 of Lace Stripe pat, inc 1 st at each side [every 6th row] 15 (17, 17, 17) times. (69, 73, 77, 77 sts)
Bind off all sts.
Assembly
Sew shoulder, armhole, sleeve and side seams.
Neck band
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and k 87 (91, 95, 95) sts evenly around neck edge.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): *K2tog, yo; rep from *, end k1.
Row 3: Knit.
Bind off all sts.
Button band
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and k 79 (83, 87, 91) sts evenly along left front edge.
Rows 1–3: K1, *p1, k1; rep from * across.
Bind off all sts.
Buttonhole band
With smaller needles and RS facing, pick up and k 79 (83, 87, 91) sts evenly along right front edge.
Row 1 (WS): Knit.
Row 2 (RS): *K2tog, yo; rep from *, end k1.
Row 3: Knit.
Bind off all sts.
Finishing
Sew buttons evenly down button band (buttonholes are yo’s).
