Spring Knitting Party

Click here for larger image. Now that spring is here, I'm ready to break out of my winter cocoon and connect with others. Only a short 10 months ago, I moved to a new place and was anxious to meet others with an interest in knitting. Lots of "talk" about planning knit nights and other gatherings were discussed but never really materialized. Winter soon arrived, and then the days became shorter. We all nestled into our warm homes tucked away for the winter.

Spring opens the door for longer warmer days and options for outdoor get-togethers. Now that the chill is gone, I'm feeling the itch to connect with my knitting friends. So what's the remedy for this you ask? Well, a knitting party of course! Grace Bonney of Design Sponge has so perfectly set the stage in her March 18th post Hunt, Gather and Host: A Knitting Party. Bonney explains how for years her friends have only talked about having a knitting get-together, and she explains how they finally had a "winter-to-spring party." After reading this inspirational post, the ideas started churning. It's time to do some spring stash cleaning, and here's my best stash buster of all: sharing with others the mountains of stash that seems to be constantly growing and exploding out of every crevice of my home. Sure, I love my stash, but in my lifetime, I may not be able to use every last skein. Would it be better to allow the skeins I so adore to sit untouched in a dark drawer for years to come? Or should I release my grip, and share in the company of others who will enjoy them immediately? I think the latter is the virtuous choice.

What comes around goes around!

Kara Gott Warner
Editor, Creative Knitting magazine

Kara is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Illustration. As a freelance illustrator, she specialized in technical illustrations for knitting, crochet and other craft books for major publishers. In 2002, Kara began designing patterns for her independent collection of knitting patterns, sold under the igottknits label. Her patterns are sold exclusively on Annie's Attic and e-PatternsCentral.com.

Kara first learned how to knit at age 12 from her grandmother, but not until her early adult life did she come back to the craft with reckless abandon. When Kara rediscovered knitting, she used it as a much-needed escape from her hectic life working as a designer in New York City. She quickly fell in love with knitting, and her needles haven't stopped clicking since. As editor, Kara first joined DRG publishing in 2007 as a freelance editor and produced a variety of hardcover knitting books. In June 2010, Kara joined the DRG family full-time, as executive editor of Creative Knitting magazine and knit publications.

Kara's knitwear designs have been published in Creative Knitting, Vogue Knitting, Interweave Knits and Family Circle Easy Knitting. She is also the author of The Divine Drop Stitch.

You can follow Kara on her blogging adventures at She Knits In The Loop.
