Hermina Needs Help!

"Can someone tell me how to knit with double-point needles? I have a sock pattern that I would like to make for my daughter, but I'm not sure how to start. " -- Hermina J.

Double-point needles are typically used for working on small in-the-round projects such as hats, gloves and mittens. The stitches are usually divided evenly among three or four needles, with the fourth or fifth working needle used as the free working needle.

Casting on Tip:
Instead of casting your stitches onto each double-point needle separately, I find that casting them onto one straight needle is much easier. Then I transfer them to the double-point needles as specified in the pattern before working my first round. Check out my tutorial about getting started on double-point needles. -- Editor
