Local Yarn Shops
The best part of returning to my freezing Midwest home from sunny California is recalling the warmth I found in its local yarn shops. In fact, that's the one good part! It is wonderful to step into a shop and meet people who accept at once that we have a shared passion. There are no upraised eyebrows when I sigh at the touch of a super-soft alpaca or a gleaming cotton blend, or glimpse a pattern of exquisite design.
Local yarn shops (LYS) are the backbone of the knitting community. The expertise and sharing spirit you'll find in the majority of them are not found anywhere else in the knitting community -- or in any other craft. Not only will you find the latest and best offerings of yarn, books, needles and notions in LYS, but the energizing atmosphere of creative minds can be positively felt in many ways. If you need a bit of assistance, you'll find it here. However, it's thoughtful of you to ask for help only on projects for which you purchased the yarn at that shop. It is considered rather a breach of knitting etiquette to ask for help when you've bought the yarn elsewhere, although some shops have programs where you can pay for their expertise.
