Ruby Layer
The free pattern for this newsletter is a design for girls sized 4 to 12. It's a short-sleeved raglan sweater, knit from the top down. Finding sweaters for girls in this range is challenging, so we thought you might like to have this pattern. Working it up in a summer-weight yarn in another color could give you an alternate look.

Child's 4 (6, 8, 10, 12) Instructions are given for smallest size, with larger sizes in parentheses. When only 1 number is given, it applies to all sizes.

Length: 14 (15, 16, 16, 17) inches
Materials
- Moda Dea Washable Wool 100 percent superwash merino wool medium weight yarn (166 yds/100g per ball): 2 (3, 3, 3, 4) balls raspberry #4474
- Size 8 (5mm) double-pointed and 24-inch circular needles or size needed to obtain gauge
- Stitch holders
- Stitch markers, 1 in CC for beg of rnd
- Tapestry needle

Gauge
18 sts and 24 rows = 4 inches/10cm in St st
To save time, take time to check gauge.
Special Abbreviations
Pm: Place marker.
Sm: Slip marker.
Pattern Notes
This raglan sweater is worked down from the neck. When the yoke is complete, sleeve sts are placed on waste yarn while the body is completed; sleeves are worked in the rnd from the armhole down.
Midway down the yoke, the sleeves are worked even; however, dec are made to compensate for the yarn over eyelet which continues as a design detail.
Yoke & Front Neck
With circular needle, cast on 70 (82, 94, 106, 118) sts, placing markers as follows: 1 front st, pm, 2 raglan seam sts, pm, 20 (24, 28, 32, 36) sleeve sts, pm, 2 raglan seam sts, pm, 20 (24, 28, 32, 36) back sts, pm, 2 raglan seam sts, pm, 20 (24, 28, 32, 36) sleeve sts, 2 raglan seam sts, pm, 1 front st; do not join.
Shape Raglan
Row 1 (RS): Yo, k1, yo, sm, *k2, sm, yo, knit to marker, yo, sm; rep from * twice more, k2, sm, yo, k1. (79, 91, 103, 115, 127 sts)
Row 2: Yo, purl to end. (80, 92, 104, 116, 128 sts)
Row 3: Yo, knit to marker, yo, sm, *k2, sm, yo, knit to marker, yo, sm; rep from * twice, k2, sm, yo, knit to end of row. (89, 101, 113, 125, 137 sts)
Row 4: Rep Row 2. (90, 102, 114, 126, 138 sts)
Continue in this manner [inc 10 sts over 2 rows] 3 more times, ending with a WS row. (120, 132, 144, 156, 168 sts)
Rnd 1 (RS): *Knit to marker, yo, sm, k2, sm, yo; rep from * 3 times, knit to end, then cable cast on 8 (12, 16, 20, 24) sts; pm for beg of rnd and join. (136, 152, 168, 184, 200 sts)
Work 1 rnd even, then work raglan inc as established [every other rnd] twice more, ending with a non-inc rnd. (152, 168, 184, 200, 216 sts)
Next rnd (inc front and back only): *Knit to marker, yo [right front], sm, k2, sm, yo, k1, ssk, knit to 3 sts before next marker, k2tog, k1, yo, [right sleeve], sm, k2, sm, yo; rep from * once [back and left sleeve], then knit to end of rnd [left and center front]. (156, 172, 188, 204, 220 sts)
Continuing to work yo's before and after raglan seam sts, work sleeves even and inc on front and back [every other rnd] 9 more times, ending on a non-inc rnd. (192, 208, 224, 240, 256 sts)
Separate Sleeves From Body
Next rnd: Removing markers, knit to marker, then k1 raglan st; sl next 38 (42, 46, 50, 54) sts to waste yarn for sleeve; k1 raglan seam st, knit across back sts, k1 raglan seam st; sl next 38 (42, 46, 50, 54) sts to waste yarn for sleeve; pm for new beg of rnd and join. (116, 124, 132, 140, 148 sts)
Body
Work in St st for 4 1/2 (5 1/2, 6 1/2, 6 1/2, 7 1/2) inches.
Eyelet rnd: *Yo, k2tog; rep from * around.
*Knit 4 rnds, work 1 Eyelet rnd; rep from * once, then knit 3 rnds.
Work 4 rnds in K1, P1 rib.
Bind off very loosely in rib.
Sleeves
Sl sts from waste yarn to dpns.
Knit 6 rnds.
Work Eyelet rnd.
Knit 1 rnd.
Work 3 rnds in K1, P1 rib.
Bind off loosely in rib.
Finishing Neckband
With circular needle, pick up and knit 102 (112, 124, 136, 146) sts evenly around neck, pm for beg of rnd and join.
Work 4 rnds in K1, P1 rib.
Bind off all sts firmly in ribbing.
Weave in loose ends. Block to finished measurements.
