Local Yarn Shop: Stitches in Time
On Friday before the TNNA Show began, I had the pleasure of visiting Stitches in Time, located at 16525 Bellflower Blvd. Candace Broeker and her mother, Corrine, seem to have thought of everything local knitters need in a yarn shop. Inviting upholstered chairs and sofas encouraged patrons to sit and chat while they plied their needles and hooks on their projects.

Candy and Corrine work together in the shop filled with yarns, knitted samples and antiques covered with projects of all shapes and sizes.

Here, Dottie Petersen was taking a peek at the March issue of Creative Knitting, Elaine Bauer was adding a lovely crochet border to a fleece baby blanket, and I was lurking over their shoulders. Other fiber artists were enjoying the afternoon of knitting, too, because more came in the door every few minutes -- but even at that rate, there was still room for more in the large shop.

This bower is filled with baby items for the store's campaign for the charity organization Stitches from the Heart, which benefits preemies and other babies in need. Knitters are encouraged to donate projects as well as participate in a monthly session to work on them.

Stacks of cubbies along the wall contain yarns of every imaginable color and fiber. Swatches and scarves allow knitters to see and feel how the yarn will behave and handle.
Interesting classes are offered throughout the month at Stitches in Time, with special events sprinkled liberally through the calendar. If you are in Bellflower, Calif., give Candy a call at (562)804-9341 for more information. It's worth the trip!
