Is there an easy way to enlarge a pattern? I've found a sweater pattern for my grandson, but the largest size is 18 months; I want to knit size 24 months. The tension is 20 stitches and 26 rows per 4 inches on size 7 needles. There is a panel pattern that is 8 stitches wide. I saw how to do this somewhere, but now I can't find the reference. I love your newsletter; I've certainly learned quite a few things. Thank you and keep up the good work.
The difference between sizes 18 and 24 months is very slight. According to the standards listed at CraftYarnCouncil.com, the larger size has only one more inch added to the chest. The major difference is the back length (4 inches) and sleeve length (1/2 inch). Bearing this in mind, I wouldn't hesitate to make your pattern as written for the 18 month size, but I would increase the length on the back and front pieces, and the sleeves. Babies generally begin growing taller but not larger around their bodies at this stage. Don't forget that you'll probably require more yarn to make this length change. – Editor
