Learn & Renew

With 2013 only four days away, it's natural to think about all the things you want to try in the coming year. I am a HUGE fan of learning (I always check out nonfiction books at the library because my appetite for knowledge is insatiable), so go ahead and challenge yourself! By experimenting with new things, we discover who we truly are. You might resolve to:

Make Your First Sweater

In the fall and winter issues, Kim Dolce wrote a two-part article, Beyond the Scarf, on knitting your first sweater. I encourage you to give it a good read and work through it. Knitting your first sweater will skyrocket your self-confidence (and keep you warm in the final months before spring)!

Try an Online Class

Online classes are becoming SUPER popular because of the ease in doing them at your own convenience. That means you don't have any excuse for shying away from learning. Annie's has a wonderful selection of classes with clear videos, knowledgeable teachers and fabulous projects! So, what's your passion? Knitting, quilting, card making, beading? Pick something you've always wanted to try and GO FOR IT! The new Learn to Knit Socks class with Lisa Carnahan is fantastic, by the way.

These are just two ideas I have out of the many -- there is no better time than the present to test new yarns, to try out new techniques such as mitered knitting or entrelac, or to play with different needles and tools. Opening yourself up to the process of learning renews your passion and creativity, increasing your confidence and happiness all around. In the coming newsletter issues, I'm going to give you plenty of opportunities to try something new as I share my favorite picks in books, designers, patterns, yarns and products.

Editor asks: I want to hear about one new-to-you knitting-related thing you are going to try in 2013. Is it a class, a technique, a product?
