Knitting for Penguins

My husband and I recently attended a dear friend's 50th birthday celebration. (By the way, she loved the 50 percent silk/50 percent alpaca scarf with 50 ruffles that I began planning while writing the Nov. 4 issue of this newsletter.) In any event, we spent the night in a hotel, and for some reason, when I find myself in a hotel room, I feel compelled to turn on the television. I guess I like to hear local news that's foreign to me. ABC News teased me with the promise of the "still-to-come" coverage of a group of people who were knitting sweaters for penguins. Did I hear that right?
Turns out, Skeinz, a yarn store in New Zealand, was calling on knitters to knit sweaters for penguins affected by a massive oil spill. The sweaters prevent oil-soaked birds from ingesting oil when they try to clean themselves. Well, I may have seen something cuter than this in my life, but I can't bring it to mind at the moment. What do you think? Click here to get the whole story and a free pattern for a penguin jumper.
Knit on!
