The difference between knitting Continental and English style is the way you hold your yarn. English knitters "throw," and Continental knitters "pick." Continental knitters use the left hand for carrying and tensioning the working yarn, and this method is considered to be faster and more efficient than the English method. Some believe that each method produces a slightly different-shaped stitch.
