Joyce Shares Her Secrets
"I want to comment about the knitting standards of beginner, easy, intermediate and experienced levels. I am new to knitting and have been easily intimidated by labels of intermediate and higher; however, I am finding that there is a very wide skill range within the intermediate category. Many patterns aren't as hard as I had expected. I found that two things have helped me more than any other factors to grow into new knitting experiences. First, practice the stitch pattern in the swatch. This helps me better understand the stitch without having to worry about mistakes; it's no big deal if I rip it out and start over until I get it right. Secondly, although practicing is very helpful, I believe the most valuable skill that I have learned is how to fix incorrect stitches without ripping out entire rows. I'm also an intermediate crocheter and am having great fun mixing the two yarn arts."
Thank you, Joyce, for offering advice on how to overcome your reluctance to try more challenging projects! Once a knitter decides to learn challenging new tricks, the whole world of knitting is boundless! --Editor
