  • Size 10 crochet cotton* (2700 yds/454g per ball): 1 ball cream #1004
  • 2 sets of size 3 (3.25mm) double-pointed needles (dpn)

Finished Size
Approx 20 inches across

Gauge
Approx 8 sts = 1 inch/2.5cm
Rnds 1-4 measure approx 2 inches across
To save time, take time to check gauge.

Special Abbreviations
M1 (Make 1): K1 in top of st in row below st on needle.
CDD (Central double dec): Sl next 2 sts as if to k2tog, k1, p2sso. (center st on top)
Sk2p (Sl 1, k2tog psso): Sl 1, k2tog, pass sl st over knit st and off needle (slants left)
K4tog: Sl next 2 sts tog knitwise, knit next 2 sts tog, pass 2 sl sts over knit st and off needle

Coaster Front
Note: Follow Fair Isle chart of choice, attaching colors as needed.
With A, cast on 21 sts.
Row 1 (RS): Work Row 1 of chart from right to left.
Row 2 (WS): Work Row 2 of chart from left to right.
Continue following chart in same manner, attaching B, C and D as indicated, until all rows of chart are complete.
Bind off all sts loosely.

Pattern Note
For this project, you will need 7 doublepointed needles.
If preferred, the doily may be transferred to a circular needle when there are enough sts; place markers between sections to keep the pattern straight, using a different marker to distinguish beg of rnd.

Doily
Cast on 4 sts on each of 3 dpn (mark beg of rnds).
Rnd 1: Knit across each needle.
Rnd 2 and all even-numbered rnds: Knit.
Rnd 3: [Yo, k2] twice across each needle. (6 sts on each needle)
Rnd 5: [Yo, k2tog, M1 below same st as last knit st, M1 below next st, k1] twice across each needle. (10 sts on each needle)
Rnd 7: [Yo, k2tog, M1, k2, M1, k1] twice across each needle. (14 sts on each needle)
Rnd 9: [Yo, k2tog, M1, k2, yo, k2, M1, k1] twice across each needle. (20 sts on each needle)
Rnd 11: [Yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k1, yo, k4] twice across each needle. (24 sts on each needle)
Rnd 13: [Yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k2tog, yo, k1, yo, k4] twice across each needle. (28 sts on each needle)
Rnd 15: *Yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k2tog, [k1, yo, k1, yo, k1] in next st, k2tog, yo, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (36 sts on each needle)
Rnd 17: *Yo, k2tog, k3, yo, k2tog, k1, [k1, M1] in each of next 3 sts, k1, k2tog, yo, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (42 sts on each needle)
Rnd 19: *Yo, k2tog, k3, yo, [k2tog, yo] 6 times, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (44 sts on each needle)
Rnd 21: *Yo, k1, yo, k4, yo, CDD, yo, [k2tog, yo, CDD, yo] twice, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (44 sts on each needle)

Rnd 25: *Yo, k1, yo, [k2tog, yo, k1, yo] twice, k4, yo, CDD, yo, sk2p, yo, CDD, yo, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (52 sts on each needle)
Rnd 27: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 5 times, k1, yo, k4, yo, CDD, yo, k1, yo, CDD, yo, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (56 sts on each needle)
Rnd 29: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 3 times, k1, yo, [ssk, yo] 3 times, k4, yo, k4tog, yo, CDD, yo, k4; rep from * twice across each needle. (56 sts on each needle)
Note: As you work Rnd 31, to avoid over-crowding sts in later rnds, divide sts on each needle onto 2 needles as instructed.
Rnd 31: *With separate needle, yo, [k2tog, yo] 7 times, k1, yo, k4, yo, k2tog, do not yo, CDD, yo, k4; rep from * 5 more times. (29 sts on each of 6 needles)
Rnd 33: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 4 times, k1, yo, [ssk, yo] 4 times, k4, yo, k4tog, yo, k4; rep from * across each needle. (30 sts on each needle)
Rnd 35: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 9 times, k1, yo,k4, k4tog, k3; rep from * across each needle. (29 sts on each needle)
Rnd 37: *Yo, k1, yo, [ssk, yo] 10 times, k3, k2tog, k3; rep from * across each needle. (30 sts on each needle)
Rnd 39: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 5 times, [k1, yo] 3 times, [ssk, yo] 5 times, k2, CDD, k2; rep from * across each needle. (32 sts on each needle)
Rnd 41: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 7 times, k1, yo, [ssk, yo] 6 times, k1, CDD, k1; rep from * across each needle. (32 sts on each needle)
Rnd 43: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 14 times, k1, yo, CDD; rep from * across each needle. (32 sts on each needle)
Rnd 45: *Yo, [k2tog, yo] 8 times, k1, yo, [ssk, yo] 7 times, k1; rep from * across each needle. (34 sts on each needle)
Rnd 47: [K11, M1, k12, M1, k11] across each needle. (36 sts on each needle; 216 sts total)
Rnd 49: K4, turn, sl 1, p3, turn, [bind off 6, k3, turn, sl 1, p3, turn] 35 times.
Bind off rem sts. Fasten off yarn and pull end through lp on needle. Weave in ends.
