EMBRACEABLE WRAPS 2012 CALENDAR CONTEST in Partnership with Yarnmarket.com
Embraceable Wraps is a not for profit whose goals are providing hats, shawls, blankets to women and girls undergoing chemotherapy. OUR MISSION: WOMEN EMBRACING WOMEN FOR A COMMON CAUSE BY CREATING A LOVING BOND IN EVERY STITCH. OUR VISION: TO CREATE AN ONLINE MARKET OF ITEMS WHOSE PROFITS WILL DIRECTLY IMPACT THE NEEDS OF THESE PATIENTS.
CONTEST RULES AND INFORMATION
Entries: Entries are limited to a wrap, hat or blanket for a female adult or child and you may submit one or more entries for each month. Be creative with your wrap designs. They can be shawls, ponchos, capes, shrugs, etc. No sweaters please. Designs must be original and must be sent with the pattern (see guidelines for patterns). Items should be month appropriate. We have designated May as Women’s Cancer Awareness Month. Embraceable Wraps Yarn should be used for this month, but can be in conjunction with other yarns.
Materials: The yarns used must be current and available for purchase through Yarnmarket.com or The Sassy Skein, Inc. (yourknitwizard.com or sassyskein.com) so other knitters can create them. No discontinued yarns can be considered.
Judging Criteria: Judges will consider compliance with the rules, design appeal, use of color and stitches, workmanship, finishing, appearance and cleanliness of items, and the quality of the written pattern.
Judges: Judges include Jan Gratz, Yarnmarket, Inc., Mary Bonnette, President, The Sassy Skein and Kara Gott Warner, Creative Knitting Magazine.
Publication Rights: Winning entry patterns will become the property of Embraceable Wraps and will be published in a 2013 calendar. The actual knit-up items will be returned upon request or can be donated to Embraceable Wraps.
Entry Deadlines: All knit-ups and patterns must be received by the last day of the previous month (ex. if you are submitting an entry for March it must be received by February 28th). THE ONLY EXCEPTION IS JANUARY WHICH MUST BE RECEIVED BY THE 15TH OF JANUARY. Winners will be announced monthly on all websites, Facebook pages, Twitter, blogs of Embraceable Wraps, Yarnmarket, The Sassy Skein and Creative Knitting.
Pattern Guidelines
Please include all the following information on your pattern:
- Name of Pattern
- Designer Name (Your name)
- A Brief Description
- Eg. A lace shawl with a floral pattern that is repeated every 24 rows. The finished size is 24" x 48".
- Size -- If applicable. eg. Children's Large.
- Materials Required:
- Yarn -- Brand of yarn, color you used, quantity of yarn required
- Needles -- All types and sizes used to knit the item
- Tools -- Darning needles, stitch holders, cable stitch holder, etc.
- Notions -- Buttons, beads or other elements added to the design
- Skill Level -- Beginner, Intermediate or Expert
- Gauge -- How many stitches and rows in a 4" x 4" swatch
- Stitches Used -- eg. Garter Stitch, Stockinette, Moss Stitch, etc.
- Instructions
- Try to be as detailed as possible. It's a good idea to provide the number of stitches that should be on the needles intermittently so knitters can check that they are following along correctly.
