Note From the Editor

"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much."
-- Helen Keller

As I sit to write this editorial letter, I find myself reflecting on the power of collaboration and how, through the talents and skills of many individuals, Creative Knitting amazingly comes to life every quarter.

This power I speak of is born from a team of people who share a mutual excitement and mission for the same end goal, which is the desire to create a magazine with spectacular patterns, engaging tutorials and compelling articles.

As you flip through the pages that follow, you'll notice something different. We've taken a "one-themed" approach this time around, and we're whisking you away on a lace and openwork journey! We encourage you to go beyond the traditional and introduce the concept of creating negative space with your knitting. Our goal is to encourage you to take some chances, question the rules and ask yourself, "What if I tried this ...?" Here's to our continued collaboration and a burning desire to create something meaningful!

Kara Gott Warner
Executive Editor, Creative Knitting magazine

Kara first learned how to knit at age 12 from her grandmother, but not until her early adult life did she come back to the craft -- and hasnít looked back. When Kara rediscovered knitting, she used it as a much-needed escape from her hectic life working as a designer in New York City. She quickly fell in love with knitting, and her needles haven't stopped clicking since.

Kara is a graduate of Parsons School of Design and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in illustration. Her specialty, technical illustrations for knitting, crochet and other craft books for major publishers. In 2002, Kara began designing patterns for her independent collection of knitting patterns, sold under the igottknits label.

Kara joined the Annieís team in 2008 as knitting book editor and produced a variety of hardcover knitting books. In June 2010, Kara joined the company full time as executive editor of Creative Knitting magazine and knit publications.

Kara's knitwear designs have been published in Creative Knitting, Interweave Knits, Vogue Knitting, and Family Circle Easy Knitting. She is also the author of The Divine Drop Stitch and instructor of the Mix & Match Sampler Annie's video class.

You can follow Kara on her blogging adventures on the Creative Knitting editor's blog, SplendidSticks.
